"When Language Comes Too Late": New Study by Lab Coordinator Dilay Z. Karadöller Out Now

Our lab coordinator Dilay Z. Karadöller’s new paper, "When language comes too late: Developmental implications of delayed sign language exposure," has been published in Child Development Perspectives. In this article, she synthesizes global evidence on delayed sign language exposure within deaf children’s broader accessible language experiences. She highlights spatial cognition as a particularly informative domain for understanding how language access may shape broader cognitive development. Ultimately, she argues that equitable developmental outcomes require policy shifts toward universal access to bilingual-bimodal interventions as the foundation of ethical and effective support systems.
