Our lab coordinator, Asst. Prof. Dilay Z. Karadöller from the Multimodal Language and Cognitive Development Lab, was the guest speaker at the 16th session of the "Learn & Connect: 5.40 Lecture Series" held on Wednesday, February 18, 2026.

In her presentation titled "İşaret Dili Ediniminde Anlamın Görsel Yüzü" (The Visual Face of Meaning in Sign Language Acquisition), Dr. Karadöller highlighted that a child's language acquisition process is not limited to sounds alone, but is profoundly shaped by multimodal interactions involving the body, hands, and spatial environment. Focusing on the systematic structure of sign languages in visual-spatial communication, the session examined the critical impact of early versus late sign language input timing on an individual's linguistic, cognitive, and emotional development. Furthermore, drawing from her nationally and internationally funded research projects, Dr. Karadöller shared insights into how the visual nature of sign languages contributes to learning and memory processes, reflecting the current research vision of our laboratory.
